June Sletteland

Sletteland, June Rose MCFARLAND/ HOLMEN - On Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, June Rose Sletteland left her earthly life to spend Christmas in heaven. Her death was peaceful, with her daughter at her bedside. Having lived a long and full life, June touched the lives of many people; as a mother, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and teacher. Junes teaching career took her to several Wisconsin school districts, including Whitehall, where she met her best friend and husband, Art Sletteland. During their years of teaching and educational leadership, June and Art mentored many high school students and were role models for other educators. During her years as a teacher, June often remarked that she loved going to school everyday. It is probably no coincidence that the extended family includes 15 teachers. June was fortunate to call three places "home." The place of her birth and childhood, Fort Atkinson, remained an anchor for her until the end. June and Art lived in Holmen, for more than 30 years; a vibrant time of extended family gatherings, a full calendar of school activities, and memorable times with treasured friends. In 1990, McFarland became her new home; the biggest attraction there being her three "perfect" grandchildren. In each location, June became an active church and community member. Wherever June lived, she made friends easily. She had a ready and warm smile and a lively wit. There was nothing June loved more than conversation with friends. Being a person who lived her faith by example, she was one who truly preferred to give than receive; having a "sixth sense" of peoples needs. June is survived by her daughter, Signe; a son-in-law, Mike; three grandchildren, Stephen, Marques and Kaitlynn Eversoll; and her sister and friend, Mildred Frame of Fort Atkinson. She also loved her six nephews, nieces and their extended families and her many friends. She delighted in each of these relationships. June was preceded in death by her husband, Art in 1989. Services to celebrate Junes full life will be held at MCFARLAND LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5529 Marsh Road, McFarland, at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, with the Rev. Jerry Pribbenow and the Rev. Terry Peterson presiding. Burial will be at Greenmound Cemetery, Holmen, at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006. Visitation will be at the church from noon until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McFarland Education Foundation, McFarland Lutheran Church (Child Life Ministries or Music Ministries) or Holmen Lutheran Church (Music Ministry).
