Obituary

Funck, Thomas C. MIDDLETON - Thomas C. Funck made his final journey into eternal life Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born July 22, 1934, in Milwaukee, to Genevieve (nee Killian) and Clarence Funck. He graduated from Bayview High School in 1953 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Tom was united in marriage to Joyce A. Griepentrog on Oct. 5, 1957. After working 20 years with United Airlines at Mitchell International Airport, Tom moved his family to Middleton, where he began Experts in Travel Consulting. Tom owned and operated travel offices in Fort Atkinson, Portage and Middleton. His business allowed him to travel and explore the world, which he truly enjoyed. Tom retired in 1992, after which he and Joyce spent many wonderful winters at Sutton Place in Cocoa Beach, Fla. One of his greatest pleasures was entertaining family and friends in his "big front yard." Tom was very proud to watch his daughters and grandchildren grow into independent, unique and happy individuals. He will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife of 49 years, Joyce; daughter, Kristin M. (James) Kaltenberg, and their son, Thomas, of Verona; daughter, Patricia L. (Michael) Blohm and their children, Claire, Alexis, Samuel and Madelyn, all of Woodbury, Minn.; and daughter, Mary E. (Steven) Stiloski and their children, Bethany, Kelsey and Joseph, all of West Bend. He is further survived by a sister, Clarice (Harvey) Hoernke, of Milwaukee; two brothers, John and David Funck, also of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Kay Brown of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Peter Funck. Tom had a knack of striking up conversations and sharing a joke with friends and strangers alike, which always left them with a smile and a lasting impression. Tom had a special love for the game of golf and cultivated many true and loyal friendships during his tenure at Blackhawk Country Club. For all he taught us and for all he was, we will always love and miss him, not only as a husband and father, but as a friend and his grandchildrens "Poppy." He will stay in our hearts forever, for in your heart is where you keep the ones you hold most dear. The family would like to extend their gratitude to family, friends, and to HospiceCare for their love and support during Toms illness. Family and friends may call at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. A private burial will be held at St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8317 Elderberry Road, Madison, WI 53717 or HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.
