Obituary

Metzler, Clayton Elroy STOUGHTON - Clayton Elroy Metzler, age 84, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006. He was raised and grew up in the Stoughton and Madison areas. Clayton graduated from Stoughton High School and attended the University of Southern California for four years and the University of Colorado for a year, where he received a bachelor of art degree in 1970. His employment record included various government assignments in the Marshall Islands, in active relations to the testing of the atomic bomb from 1953 until 1958. Clayton also spent a number of years attending the BMEWS sites (Bulletin Missile Exam Warning Site) in Alaska from 1960 until 1968. His last assignment was as an administrator for the Federal Prison Service in Oxford, Wis., Chicago, Ill. and Montgomery, Ala. Clayton lived in Alabama for 25 years, returning to Stoughton in December 2004. He is survived by a brother, Roland (Betty) Metzler of Stoughton; a sister, Virginia (Bob) Waldsmith of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Chrystal Metzler and Ruth Metzler; and several nieces and nephews. Clayton was preceded in death by his mother, Ada Metzler Dahl; two brothers, Richard and Harlan; a sister, Irene Metzler Lunde; and a special nephew, Douglas R. Metzler. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL HOME, Highway 51 North at Jackson Street, Stoughton, at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006. Burial will be at East Side Cemetery, Stoughton. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Tuesday.
