Frances Schoff

Schoff, Frances E. OREGON - Frances E. Schoff, age 92, of Oregon, died on Monday, Nov. 13, 2006. She was born on Oct. 18, 1914, near Mauston, the daughter of John and Bridget (Madden) Mullowney. Frances was married to Earl J. Schoff on June 10, 1939, in St. Patricks Church, Mauston. In 1941, they moved to Oregon where Earl was employed as storekeeper at the Wisconsin School for Girls, a correctional institution, now known as Oakhill and inhabited by men. After graduation from the Mauston High School in 1932, Frances continued her education as a teacher. She graduated from Juneau County Teachers Normal, from a one year course at Edgewood College with a bachelors degree in reading and the University of Wisconsin with a masters degree in curriculum. Frances taught five years in Juneau County as a rural teacher, and in 1951 began teaching in the Elementary School in Oregon, which she continued for 29 years, and retiring in 1980 with fond memories of teaching. Her dedication to teaching continued long after retirement. She was a devoted mother, whose central focal in life was children, her own and the ones she taught. Frances touched the homes of many families during her teaching career and watched youth grow only for her to be called where age will never fade. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend to many. Frances was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon since 1941, the Wisconsin Education Association, The Oregon Town and Country Womens Club, Oregon Historical Society and Silver Threads. She is survived by her son, John (Janice) of McFarland; a grandson, William (Heather) of Oconomowoc; a great-grandson, Clayton; a great-granddaughter, Hailey; a sister-in-law, Irene Schoff of Mauston; and many nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John in 1955; her husband, Earl in 1982; and a sister in 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, with Father Bill Connell presiding. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Oregon. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 431 Soden Drive, Oregon, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
