Obituary

Schutz, Alma J. MIDDLETON/ LAS VEGAS, NEV. - Alma J. (Skaar) Schutz, age 105, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was born on Feb. 12, 1901, in Courtenay, N.D., the daughter of Ed and Rosa (Baker) Skaar. In 1912, at the time of her fathers death, she moved to Mount Horeb, where she attended grade and high school. Alma went on to college at Platteville, where she earned her teaching degree. She taught in Madison at the Franklin and Lapham Schools for more than 20 years. Alma was united in marriage to Al Schutz on Sept. 17, 1948 and they moved to Middleton, in 1964. Al preceded Alma in death in 1969. She moved to Las Vegas in 2000, to join the Richard and Marilyn Swenson family. Alma regaled life and shared it in her photos and with her stories. She had kept a record of every book that she had ever read. Alma was a member of the Middleton Womens Club, the Historical Society at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Middleton, Madison Catholic Womens Club, Retired Teachers Organization of Dane County, Wisconsin RTA, life membership and the National Retired Teachers. In addition to her husband, Al Schutz, Alma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edwin Skaar; two sisters, Goldie Rublee and Cora Cheeseman; and a nephew, Allen Skaar. Memorial services will be held at ST. BERNARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding.
