George Edgerton

Edgerton, George T. MONONA - George T. Edgerton, CWO Four USAR retired, age 79, passed away on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006. He was born on Feb. 25, 1927, in Madison, to Charles E. and Louise C. Edgerton. George married June Nagahashi in Tokyo, Japan, in 1951. She preceded him in death in 1977. They had three children, David W., Daniel J. and Denise L. Denise passed away in 1977. George married Henrietta Laufenberg Dugan in 1979, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Monona. His military career consisted of active duty with the occupation forces of Japan, Korean Service and the Vietnam war. Georges military awards included an Occupation Ribbon for Korean Service, United Nations National Defense, American Defense Vietnam Service with four campaign stars, Good Conduct medal and reserve service. He was awarded the Bronze Star with V device, a second Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, a Meritorious Service medal and Army commendation medals during his tour in the Vietnam war. George began his career with the United States Postal Service as a truck mechanic and retired in 1984 as manager of Fleet Operations. He was a life member of the DAV, and life member and past All American Commander of VFW Post No. 7591, member of Elks Lodge No. 410, Madison, and past president and long time secretary of Monona Grove Lions Club. George was an avid ham radio operator (N9UDG) and a member of the American Radio Relay League. Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; sons, David and Daniel (Robin) Edgerton; a stepson, David Dugan; grandchildren, Angelique, Elisabeth and Alexander Edgerton and Amanda Connor; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, with Father John Meinholz presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by the Madison Veterans Firing Squad. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital and especially the staff and his friends at Wisconsin Dialysis Inc. East, for their excellent care and support.
