Phillip Utzig

Utzig, Phillip A. OREGON - Phillip A. Utzig, age 83, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, after a short illness. He was born on April 4, 1923, in Evansville, the son of Herman and Alice (Hickman) Utzig. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, during World War II, and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Phillip was united in marriage to Marie Zimmerman on May 1, 1946. He and Marie, owned and operated Skateland Roller Rink in Evansville, during the 1960s. For many years he assisted family and friends with their income taxes, but his true calling was as a Tool and Die designer, retiring from WISCO Industries in Oregon. He loved to attend auctions and bring home treasures. Phillip is survived by a daughter, Jean Utzig of Stoughton; three sons, Terry (Carol) Utzig of Menomonie, Allen (Lynne) Utzig of Bloomington, Minn., and Roger (Kay) Utzig of Oregon; six grandchildren, Steve Utzig, Julie Fevola, Mark Utzig, Tricia Jones, Krysia Utzig and Clayton Utzig; seven great-grandchildren with one more on the way; and a sister-in-law, Betty (Urban) Dochnal of Dodgeville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 2005; his parents; a brother, Frederick Utzig; and a sister, Lucy Faust. A graveside service will be held at ST. MARYS CEMETERY, located on N. Main St., Oregon, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, with military rites conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
