Richard Paulson

Paulson, Richard "Dick" MADISON - Richard "Dick" Paulson, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at St. Marys Care Center. He was born on May 19, 1930, in Madison, a son of Paul and Blanche (Sperry) Paulson. Dick served in the U.S. Army from March 29, 1951, until Jan. 22, 1953, in the Korean War. He married Eleanor Schatzke on May 1, 1954, in Neshkoro. Dick worked for Dane County at the Coliseum, Parks Department and as a bailiff, retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 501 and V.F.W. Post No. 7591. Dick enjoyed wood crafts, camping and snowmobiling in his early years. His greatest joy for the last 40 years was spending time at his cottage and enjoying his pontoon boat at Lawrence Lake, where many friendships were made. Dick took great pride in his home and family. He loved his dogs, Tippy, Cuddles, C.J. and Mickie. Dick would "tell it like it is" and let his feelings be known, but would give you the shirt off his back. He is survived by his loving and care giving wife of 52 years, Eleanor "Ellie"; a son, Steven (Paula) Paulson of Madison; a daughter, Lori Zander of Middleton; four grandchildren, Deanna (Brad) Webb of DeForest, Sacha Paulson (Mike Mulcahy) of Madison, Kyle Zander of Eau Claire, and Lindsey Zander of Middleton; three great-grandchildren, Cory Paulson, Tyler Webb and Michaela Paulson; a sister-in-law, Doris Paulson of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Fred Splinter; two brothers, Ivan and LaVerne; and two sisters, Bernice Ellefson and Pearl Paulson. Funeral services will be held at ST. STEPHENS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, with the Rev. Bruce Burnside presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006.
