Obituary
Askey, Edward L. "Bud" MADISON - Edward "Bud" Askey, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Oakwood Village East. He was born on May 29, 1922, in Rockford, Ill. to Roy and Grace (Hopkins) Askey. Edward married Jane Ophime on Oct. 4, 1941. He served his country during World War II as a member of the 176th air guard squadron at Truax Field in Madison. He also served during the Korean Conflict, as a member of the 128th fighter interceptor wing, where he was a sergeant in the military police squadron. Edward retired from the Air Force in 1949, and retired from Oscar Mayer in 1984, after 36 faithful years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 7591, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Association. Edward was a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor, who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was an avid car collector; his prized possession was his model "A." He enjoyed participating in parades with his grandchildren and going to car shows with Jane. Edward and Jane spent many summers boating and fishing at their cottage in Okee on Lake Wisconsin. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 65 years; two children, Terry (Gail) Askey of Okee and Darleen (Dennis) Michaelis of Madison; two brothers, Duwayne and William Askey; eight grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Thomas and Ronald; and a sister, Glydina (Joe) Ammons. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time the time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakwood Foundation. Edwards family would like to thank the staff at Oakwood Village East for the care that they provided to Bud over the last three years. The family would also like to thank HospiceCare, for the kind care they gave Bud during his last days. After Glow, Id like the memory of me to be a happy one. Id like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done. Id like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. Id like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
