Obituary
Esser, Lavern W. SUN PRAIRIE/ MONONA - Lavern W. Esser, age 83, died on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006. He was born on Dec. 29, 1922, in Castle Rock Township, the son of William and Barbara (Kroll) Esser. Lavern graduated from Highland High School, with the class of 1940. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps, from 1943 until 1946, during World War II. Lavern was united in marriage to Leah Johnson, on May 31, 1952. He drove for Greyhound Bus Lines, for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Lavern enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post No. 333 and V.F.W. Post No. 9362. Lavern is survived by his brother, Joseph (Millie) Esser of Highland; two sisters, Mary (Clarance) Hasz of Stoughton and Ann Austin of California; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Schultz of DeForest and Elsie Esser of Montfort; a brother-in-law, Keith "Ole" (Sandy) Johnson of Sun Prairie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leah; his parents; a sister, Virginia Mackey; two brothers, George and Bob Esser; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Roust. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SACRED HEARTS OF JESUS AND MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 221 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
