Obituary

Badeau, Lester "Bud" MADISON - Lester "Bud" Badeau, died on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Oakwood Village East, at age 92. Buds long and full life included serving as an Alderman on the Madison City Council, partnership in a well-known plumbing business, five years service in Australia during World War II, and a 60 year marriage to his loving wife, Audrey. He was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Lewiston, Idaho, and later moved with his family to Wisconsin. Bud graduated from Madison East High School in 1931 and Madison Business College two years later. He met Audrey Hawley in 1937, and they were married on May 31, 1946, at Christ Presbyterian Church in Madison. During World War II, Bud served in the U.S. Army, as a Master Sergeant, in Australia and New Guinea, where his unit set up hospitals and took care of injured servicemen. Along with his sisters, Bud and his brother Dewey ran the successful Badeau Plumbing Company for many years, established by their dad, R.C. Badeau. In the 1960s, he was elected to the City Council of Madison as Alderman of the 16th ward. In retirement, Bud and Audrey spent 26 winters in Tucson, Ariz., and enjoyed their many good friends in both Arizona and Wisconsin. They also loved playing golf, bowling, dancing, traveling, and playing cards. Bud was a longtime member of the East Side Club, the Elks Club, and the V.F.W. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two sons, Bob (Patty) of Pleasant Springs and Steve of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Meaghan (Dan) of St. Paul, Minn. and Ben of Madison. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred and Ethel; and his brother, Dewey. There will be a memorial luncheon for Bud at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, Prairie Rose Inn, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 and his family and friends are welcome. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakwood Village East. The family wants to thank all the staff at Oakwood Village East for their wonderful care and especially the staff at the Meadows for taking care of Bud in his last days.
