Brown, Marion D. "Brownie" MADISON - Marion D. "Brownie" Brown, age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, surrounded by family at the Anderson-Johnson Hospice Center, Fitchburg, following a lengthy illness. He was born on Dec. 7, 1924, the son of Louis C. and Eva (Ewers) Brown in the township of Sylvan, Richland County. Brownie served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Myers on Sept. 11, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison. Brownie touched the lives of many through his work and interests. He was a police officer for UW-Madison from 1953 until 1981, retiring as a lieutenant. Following his retirement, he drove for Care Cabs. Brownie was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post No. 534 and V.F.W. Post No. 7591. He also was a volunteer with the Madison Veterans Firing Squad. Brownie was on the board of directors for Lake Sherwood Property Owners Association. He was a faithful servant at his church, active with the church council, choir, an usher and many other committees. Brownie sang with the Monona Senior Chorus and was an East Towne Walker. He was an avid Badgers fan and was a member of the Mendota Gridiron Club. A season ticket holder since 1955, he often traveled to away football games to support the team. Brownie enjoyed motorcycles, camping, hunting, gardening, fishing and snowmobiling. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrt; four children, M. Donald of Greensboro, N.C., Mark (Michelle Meicher) of Waunakee, Marlene (Steve) Houser, and Michael (Anna Meissen); 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Miles, Jamie, Brian, Brett, Lucas, Trevor, Nathan, Matthew, Lauren and Kristin; a sister-in-law, Fern Brown; and his nieces and nephews, Elaine Eling, Laurina Foley, Patricia Droes, James and Janson Brown, Arvin, Delon, and Gerel Brown, Lillian Hanke, Lola Schweitzer and Laurita Vodak. Brownie was preceded in death by his parents; an aunt, Estella (Ewers) Brown; his in-laws, Dwight and Ovidia Myers; his siblings, Zelda Reynolds, Elgie, Ida Zelma (Lester) Grant, Austin (Edith Pearl) and Laura (Lynford) Looker; a nephew, Mike Foley; and a niece, Lorraine Foley. Funeral services will be held at MESSIAH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from noon until the time of the service on Sunday. Memorials may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, HospiceCare, Inc. or to the charity of donors choice.
