Obituary
Voss, Kathryn S. MIDDLETON - The family of Kathryn Shuga Voss sadly announces her passing on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Oakwood West. Kathryn Shuga was born on Nov. 11, 1910, to John and Mari Shuga, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Kathryn was one of eight children who grew up on a farm near Cornucopia, a small community on the south shore of Lake Superior. In the summer of 2003, Kay and her family returned to Cornucopia for its centennial celebration where she was reunited with her extended family and friends she had not seen in decades. At age 20, Kay graduated from an area community college in education and began her teaching career on a Native American reservation in Northern Wisconsin. Kay later moved to Madison and taught at Shorewood Elementary School and finishing her teaching career at Hoyt Elementary School. She married Gilman J. Voss on Sept. 13, 1947. They raised four sons, John (Kathy) Voss of Minneapolis, Minn., Gil (Carol) Voss of Oregon, David Voss of Port Wing, and Paul (Pamela) Voss of Middleton. Besides being a full-time mother and educator, Kay worked towards a masters degree at Edgewood College and the UW serving on the Board of Directors of Oakwood Lutheran Homes. In 1997, Kay and Gilman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, a very fond milestone shared with their family and friends. Upon Gilmans passing in November 2000, Kay indulged herself in the simple joys of life. She read three books at a time, faithfully followed the Milwaukee Brewers and thrived on eating new and different foods her grandchildren introduced her to. Most of all, Kay felt blessed by her family of four sons, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at WEST MIDDLETON LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3763 Pioneer Road (corner of Mineral Point Road), at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, with the Rev. David Brandfass presiding. Burial will be in Middleton Junction Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at WEST MIDDLETON LUTHERAN CHURCH. Friends may also call on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Special thanks go out to the entire staff at Oakwood Lutheran Homes who cared for her these last two years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakwood Village West or West Middleton Lutheran Church. Kay was a very remarkable lady who will truly be missed and remembered by all the people she touched in her lifetime, especially her family.
