Obituary
Napier, Gary R. MADISON - Gary R. Napier, age 49, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at his home in Madison. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 11, 1957, but spent most of his childhood and adult life in Madison. Gary enlisted in the U.S. Marines after high school and achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. He was a gentle, quiet, private man who loved his family, studying music and writing poetry. Gary had a special love for Scottish terriers and owned a number of them over the years. His best buddy was his Scottish Terrier, "JD", who was at his side when he died. Thanks to the cooperation of the Dane County Humane Society and the Door County Scotty Rescue, "JD", has a good home again in the Madison area. A number of years ago, Gary was the vocalist in a Madison area band called "Viva Las Vegas" and also wrote the lyrics for many of their songs. Their music was played on a local radio station WORT. Gary worked on the custodial staff at the UW-Madison campus, for 17 years. He leaves behind his mother, Francesca Fonte of Madison; his special aunt, Licia Fonte of Cottage Grove (who helped raise him for awhile); his cousin, Linda (Tom) Smolich of Beach Park, Ill., who he developed a special bond with over the last few years; and other extended family members. His best friend, was his cousin, Nancy Jean Caccitolo, who preceded him in death in 2001. They grew up together and were know as the "Gold Dust Twins" and were always looking out for each other. Now they are together and looking out for each other once again. A private family service will be held at a later date.
