Doris M. Peters

MADISON - Doris M. Peters, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on August 14, 1941, the daughter of the late Robert A. and Freda Stanek.

 She enjoyed a career as a bookkeeper for the University of Wisconsin Foundation until her retirement in 1996.  A woman of many interests, she spent her free time traveling, gardening, reading, cooking and solving crossword puzzles. She delighted in watching cooking shows and was known for her culinary skills. A lifelong lover of books, she visited the library every two weeks to borrow two new volumes. Above all, Doris treasured the time spent with her family and cared deeply for her pets.

 Doris is survived by her daughter, Dawn Peters; her son, Todd Peters and his wife, Pritha Hariharan; her stepsons, Randall Peters and Mark Peters; and grandchildren, Jai and Taj Peters, as well as Sara and Brett Peters. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Rita (Robert) Sulzer.

 A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026. A graveside service will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, 3054 County Highway BB, Cottage Grove, Wis.
