Obituary

REEDSBURG / BLACK EARTH - Donna May (Parman) Obright, age 88, of Reedsburg, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026. She was born on May 12, 1938, in Prairie du Sac, Wis., the daughter of John and Pearl (Knight) Parman.

Donna was a graduate of Mazomanie High School. On August 14, 1959, she married Duane A. Obright in The Little Brown Church in Chickasaw County, Iowa.  Duane and Donna went on to have three children, Perry, Carrie and Chad while living in the home they built for the family in Black Earth.

Donna was a Boy Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader, a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, a member of a Black Earth ladies bowling team, and a pitcher for the Black Earth women’s softball team. She enjoyed cooking, reading, birdwatching, and for many years, she was an avid gardener. She enjoyed spending holidays with her family and watching the birds she fed in her backyard garden. One of her favorite past times was gambling at Ho Chunk Casino as well as visiting other casinos. She was an avid fan of the Bucks, the NFL, and both the Badgers football and basketball teams. She rarely missed watching any of these games.

Prior to her retirement in 2006, she had a successful entrepreneurial career with her high school friend, Carol Moeller.  After having an interior design business for a few years, Donna and Carol purchased the historic Heiney's Meat Market building in Black Earth, first opening it as an antique store and then as a restaurant called Carodonn’s.  Donna used her love of cooking to create wonderful meals as the restaurant’s chef, gaining wide acclaim as a regional favorite for fine dining.  After many years at Carodonn’s, Donna and Carol started a miniature and train store with their daughters at the Grand Avenue Mall in Milwaukee.  Later, they also had two bed and breakfasts, The Inn at Grady’s Farm in Portage and Hawk’s View B&B in Lake Delton.

Donna is survived by her sons, Perry (Janice) Obright and Chad (Stephanie) Obright; daughter, Carrie (Rick) Hanson; sister, Beverly (Gerald) Nelson; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; and her siblings, Elaine, Jack, Janice, Paul, Arthur, Phillip, Douglas, Allen and Kathleen.
