Obituary

CAMBRIDGE - Born on January 20, 1949, Margaret Lea (Hutchison) Hawkins, age 77, passed serenely from this life to her next, surrounded by love on October 13, 2026, at London Lodge near her home in Cambridge, WI.  ALS may have robbed her of more time with her friends and family, but it didn’t steal the memories they carry of her as an amazing mother, a dedicated grandmother, a devoted wife and a loyal friend, aunt and sister.

Grammie stitched her life in the manner she did with quilting - with precision, playfulness, dedication and faith. She was valued in her career, treasured in her faith community and loved, deeply, by her friends and family. Her care and devotion to her family, in sickness and in health, in everyday activities, and in moments of seriousness and fun, were a blessing and a treasure.

Like the differences in fabrics, Margaret embraced the uniqueness of those she met, the adventures she took, the causes and people she believed in, and the challenges that came her way in life. Margaret stitched the best life - piecing each season and year with creativity, joy, humor, humbleness, and LOVE.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (James) Dougherty; daughter, Holly (Adam) Gould; step-children, Judy Hawkins (Paul Phillips) and Gary Hawkins (Landon Godfrey); three granddaughters, Cameron and Elizabeth Gould and Natasha Wallace; brother-in-law, Bud Beebe; many treasured nieces and nephews; and her kitties, Edith and Irene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hawkins; parents, Edith (Flint) Hutchison and Marion Hutchison; sisters, Sandra Beebe and Nancy (Richard) Sjoberg; and her dog, Bo-Bo Gould.

Her family thanks the people who were members of “Team Grammie” in the last two years of her life–the CNAs, nurses, buddies and friends; all of her therapists who pushed her to find her voice and kept her balanced; the angels of London Lodge who were everything to her family at the end.  We couldn’t be more appreciative of all the love and attention.

A memorial service will be held EDGERTON UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 114 N. Henry St., Edgerton, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2026, with a celebration to follow at the Henry Street Social next to the church.  Don and Margaret’s ashes will be placed together at a private family gathering at Lake Ripley Cemetery.
