MONDOVI / MADISON - Janet Marie VanSomeren passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Fort Atkinson. She was born on December 13, 1942, in Schuyler, Neb., the daughter of Alfred and Agnes (Vrba) Lueke.
Jan left home after high school and never looked back! She attended business school in Omaha, Neb., and went on to build a dedicated career in the telecommunication industry. Most recently she worked at Mondovi Telephone, where she wore many hats, serving as receptionist, secretary, and handling billing and sales.
On December 2, 1972, Jan married her best friend, Roger VanSomeren. Together they started a family with their daughter, Marie.
Jan had a special place in her heart for animals, especially dogs and cats, and supported the humane society. She enjoyed visiting Olbrich Botanical Gardens, listening to Elvis Presley, and making memories with family and friends. Some of her favorite times were spent along the Mississippi River, soaking up the sunshine with a cold beer and a cigarette, or taking peaceful walks near the water while watching the ducks. Jan knew how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures and treasured the moments spent with the people and things she loved.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Marie VanSomeren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, on December 30, 2007; parents; and sisters, Mary (Lueke) Gowen.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Wellington Place in Fort Atkinson, Chris and Carmen at MyChoice, and the staff at Rainbow Hospice for their compassionate care. We are deeply grateful to the many friends and family members who offered their help and support, to Johnny Adress for creating the urn, and to Niki Andress, Dagna Sheerar, Duan Jallow, and Melissa Warren for their incredible love and support.
Services will be held at Talbot Funeral Home in Mondovi, Wis. at a later date.
