MADISON - Jeanne A. McCann, age 91, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Jeanne was born at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wis., on April 17, 1935, to Peter A. Hamacher Jr. and Frances "Dutch" (Aylward) Hamacher. She graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison. Jeanne would frequently recount the night that she first met David at the Loft where he was excelling on the pool table. She told her friend that night that she would marry that man one day. As fate would have it, Jeanne wed the love of her life, David W. McCann, on January 26, 1957, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Madison, Wis. Together they raised two wonderful children, Shane and Theresa.
Jeanne was an avid traveler and looked forward to her annual trips to Florida with her family, trips to Q Casino in Dubuque, as well as any opportunity to hop on a cruise ship. During the summer months it was not uncommon to find Jeanne next to a body of water, whether it be a lake or a pool, as she loved to swim and spend time in the sun. She worked for Singers Sewing where she perfected her sewing and embroidery skills. Some of Jeanne's fondest memories were rooted in the neighborhood where she and David raised their children, a close-knit community that brought her a deep sense of pride and belonging. They were surrounded by great friends with whom they made many lasting memories. Anyone who knew Jeanne knows that the best way to get her on a dance floor was to play the song "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra.
Jeanne is survived by her two children, Shane (Kim) McCann of Madison and Theresa (Rick) McCann-Page of Madison; grandchildren, Shannon (Christian) Ingalls, Heather (Ralph) Cowell, Lucas McCann, Justine Page, Kyleigh (Matthew) Powers and Maycie Page; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Nena Meyers of Troy, Mich.; brother, Richard Hamacher of Janesville, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David W. McCann; mother, Frances "Dutch" Hamacher; father, Peter A. Hamacher; brother, Aylward P. Hamacher; brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Meyers; nephew, Richard "Richie" Meyers; best friend, Mary Alice Frey; and several other friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at QUEEN OF APOSTLES PARISH, ST. DENNIS CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
