Georgia Klitzkie

MADISON - Georgia A. Klitzkie, age 84, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Rainbow Hospice Care, surrounded by the love of her family.

Georgia was born on June 27, 1942, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Hugh and Elsie (Melton) McDonald. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing College in Milwaukee. Georgia spent many years working as a registered nurse for UW Health, where she cared for others with the same kindness and dedication she brought to everything in her life.

Georgia was a true homemaker at heart and took great pride in her home, keeping it immaculate and making sure everyone who walked through her door felt welcome. She was the neighborhood mom-the person you could count on, whether you needed a listening ear, a helping hand, or just someone to tell you exactly what she thought.

She loved the simple things that made life enjoyable. Georgia was a devoted Badgers and Packers fan, enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and reality television, and could often be found shopping on QVC. She was an Avon lady for many years and enjoyed getting to know the people in her community. She and her husband, Doug, especially enjoyed camping together and making memories along the way.

Georgia had a big heart for animals, especially dogs. Her beloved dogs were truly part of her family, and she leaves behind Piper and Bella, who brought her so much joy. She was also a proud Democrat and never lacked an opinion or a willingness to share it.

Most of all, Georgia loved her family. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Stephanie (Bill Zwolanek) Klitzkie and Jennifer Obert; bonus daughter, Lara Borkowski-Hart; grandchildren, Emma and Sean Obert; brothers, Tom McDonald, Byron (Cheryl) McDonald, Dan (Caryl) McDonald and Jim (Jackie) McDonald; sisters, Jean (Norm) Sannes and Wanda (Joe) Beringer; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas Klitzkie; her parents, Hugh and Elsie McDonald; sister, Donna McDonald; sister-in-law, Barb McDonald; and her much-loved dogs, Foxy, Scully and Doogie.

Her family and friends will remember her for her generous heart, her love of home and family, her devotion to her dogs, and the special way she made the people around her feel cared for.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Care for the compassionate care, comfort and support they provided to Georgia and her family during her final days.
