Linda Ann Johnson
October 25, 1941 - September 27, 2026
Obituary
MADISON – Linda Ann Johnson passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026, with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 25, 1941, the daughter of Clifford W. Sandley and Kathryn H. Sandley.
Linda graduated from East High School in 1959. She worked for many years at Oscar Mayer, where she was also a dedicated member of the Oscarettes. After retiring from Oscar Mayer, Linda started working at Monona State Bank, which led to the purchase of her dream condo in Madison.
Linda loved to travel, especially with her best friend, Sharon Hougland. She was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers football teams and loved visiting both home fields, creating many unforgettable game-day memories. She enjoyed being social and was always up for a good time, whether she was bowling with friends and family, playing bocce ball at the East Side Club, or simply spending time with the people she loved.
Linda had a quick wit and an even quicker comeback, and those who knew her knew she was never afraid to speak her mind. She had a wonderfully stubborn streak, especially when someone suggested getting rid of something she thought was perfectly fine. Her response was almost always the same: “It’s not hurting anything!” It became one of those unmistakably Linda phrases that her family will undoubtedly remember and repeat with a smile. Beneath her wit and stubborn spirit was someone who loved her family deeply. Linda took great joy in spending time with and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also shared a special bond with her grand-dog, Niko, who quickly became one of Linda’s most devoted companions. The love, laughter and memories Linda gave to those around her will remain a treasured part of her legacy.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Lori (Mike) Greenwold; grandchildren, Ashley Robinson (Chris Carnitz) and Taylor Robinson; great-grandchildren, Alexa Riley and Jaxson Carnitz; step-grandchildren, Nichole (Kris) Mueller and Darrin (Megan) Greenwold; step-great-grandchildren, Kendall and Ryan Mueller, and Carter and Kinsley Greenwold; and nieces, Connie Taylor, Cathi Taylor and Barb Stalker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Kathryn Sandley; her sister, Jean Lewis; and her brother, James Sandley.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026. A visitation will take place at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
Linda will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. Her quick wit, unmistakable personality and the love she had for her family will never be forgotten. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, the laughter, stories and memories she leaves behind will keep her close in the hearts of those who loved her.
