William C. Miller, M.D.

William Miller, MD Dr. William C. Miller passed away on October 25th, 2018 after 99 3/4 years of an active and full life. He was born in Portland, Colorado on November 24th, 1918, the son of Frank S. and Rosina (Reisinger) Miller. His youth was spent on the desert plains surrounding Pueblo, Colorado collecting arrowheads, camping under the starry skies, and enjoying mischief and adventure with his brothers. Bill was a life time avid reader of poetry, westerns, nature and science, adventure and mythology. He completed under graduate studies in science at St. Mary's College, Oakland Ca. and completed a Doctorate of Medicine at Marquette University, Milwaukee Wi. He joined the US Army Medical Corp during WW2 and served in the Asian/Pacific Front. He was stationed as a Medical Intern in Dermatology at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone 1943-1944; and at the US Army Tripler General Hospital, Oahu Hawaii as Chief of Dermatology 1944-1946. During his spare time in Hawaii he volunteered dermatology service to those suffering from "Hansen's Disease" at the Colony on Molakai's Kaluappa Peninsula. Back on the mainland he enjoyed a Dermatology Residency with Northwestern University and the University of Chicago 1946-1947. In 1947 Dr. Miller joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison General Hospital as the very first "Resident of Dermatology" under Dr. Stuart Johnson. This was followed by a year as "Teaching Resident in Dermatology" at the University of Michigan’s University Hospital in Ann Arbor. He married Lorraine Anne Bliese on January 5th, 1945 at Jesu Church, Milwaukee Wi. They shared a happy life with 5 children and a private practice in Dermatology in Wausau Wi. After "retirement" to Madison Wisconsin Dad joined the Associated Physicians as Dermatologist and enjoyed the camaraderie with his colleagues and the entire staff. Retirement included joyous family times in Captiva, Florida and Minocqua, Wisconsin; and happy destination travels with Lorraine. William is survived by his children Kay Lory (Bill) Reis, Christopher Todd (Sharon) Miller, and Angela Beth (Dan) Nimsgern, son-in-law James (Chris) Schneck; Grandchildren Sarah (Paul) Thuot, Wendy (Jesse) Furrer, Paul (Trina) Schneck, John (Tracie) Schneck and Mary Kim Schneck; Ryan (Kendal) Reis, Rob Reis, Bridget (Tom) Lenz; Christina Miller, Jessica (Rob) Baker, Amanda ( Mike ) Everhart, Martha Miller and Daniel Cole Nimsgern. Great grandchildren Andrew and Rebecca Thuot; Baylee, Kayla, and Jake Furrer; Alanna and Landon Schneck; Logan, Ian and Emma Schneck; Avery and Charlie Reis; Adeline and Lillian Lenz; Tyler Reis; Asher and Hudson Baker; Kyrie and Dean Everhart. William was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, John, Joe and Frank Jr. and 3 sisters, Helen, Marie and Liz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; his daughter Sue Ann (Jim) Schneck and his son Jonathon Timothy. Dad’s family celebrated his 100th year birthday in the weeks before he died. We were able to tell him how special he has made our lives. This story teller, poet, artist, adventurer, whistler, and singer touched many. A private family celebration of his amazing life will be held at one of his "happy places".
