Our 100-year-old mother Bernice (Ziegler) Marx grew up in Middleton, and attended high school with Sonny and Eileen. She remembers "Jumbo," too. With her amazing memory, she recalls vividly when he was reported "missing in action." She is happy to have lived long enough to see the day he is interred at St. Bernard's. Please accept her sincere condolences. She said she hopes it helps to know that someone her age still remembers that nice young man from Middleton High School.

This weekend, while we were in the Middleton community to welcome home and show loving respect for "Sonny, " more of us got to know him. He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. "Sonny" surely was an outstanding, brave and courageous young man. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, in an extremely dangerous area of World War II. We will never forget that. Rest in peace, William "Sonny" LaVerne Simon. God bless you and your family.
