Obituary

MONONA - Joshua David Burrington, age 33, of Monona, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024. He was born on July 3, 1990, in Hinsdale, Ill., the son of David and Kimberlee (Wilson) Burrington. His family moved to Madison in 1992, where he spent many happy years for the rest of his childhood.

Josh graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison in 2009, and from UW-Eau Claire in 2014, with a degree in Health Care Administration.  He worked at National Guardian Life (NGL) for nine years, most recently as an Account Success Associate.

Josh was blessed with many friends and family that all loved him dearly.  He had such a kind heart, never had an unkind word for anyone, and showed great empathy and caring for others. He delighted in giving to others but also loved to get surprises and gifts.  His love of surprises was reflected in the joy that he had collecting Pokémon cards, Legos, video games, and Amiibos. He loved his work family at NGL and was one of the few people that missed going to the office during the Pandemic.

We were blessed to have Josh as our son and we truly enjoyed doing things together as a family whenever possible.  We took many ski trips, and also visited England, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Ireland, and most recently New Zealand. We loved visiting new places and seeing the joy that Josh had exploring and discovering. When Josh wasn’t spending time with family, he enjoyed golfing, boating, gaming, and socializing with his friends. He loved sports and shared many fun times with his family and friends attending Badgers, Packers and Bucks games. We were especially blessed to have him close by because he would often drop by to take a walk with us and our dogs, have dinner together, or just hang with Mom and Dad. We will miss him every moment of every day but hold the hope that we will see him again.

“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with the heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.”

Joshua is survived by his parents, David and Kimberlee; sister, Claire (Sam Palmer) Burrington; grandmother, Charlotte Burrington; aunts, Cheryl (Dennis) Mittleider and Kara Wilson; and cousins, Adam (Mikaela) Mittleider, Chelsey (Jason) King, Sarah (Luke) Romano and David Kuhn. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Meredith Burrington and Lee Wilson; and grandmother, Karen Wilson.

I have very fond memories of Josh from our Honduras Mission trip in 2007. He helped in the rural pharmacy with my late husband, Russ. This is my favorite picture of them from the trip. I will lift the family in my prayers. God Bless all of you. Marge Cook

Josh was, and will always be, a great friend and a beautiful presence in so many lives. His humor, stories, and joy that he brought will be so very missed. I’ll miss his daily check in that would always begin with “big changes are coming”, or his texts to me about shutting down our office whenever it started to sprinkle “for everyone’s safety”. He always knew how to make those around him laugh. Until we meet again, my friend.

While we didn’t know Josh personally, we know his parents, Dave & KJ. Josh came from a very loving, happy, fun & close-knit family. We enjoy hearing stories about their favorite topics, Josh & Claire. While we can’t explain why this precious soul is no longer with us, Jesus has promised He is coming back for us. What a Happy Day it will be to see this incredible family made complete again. Until then, rest well, Josh. We will all be praying your family through this loss.

Josh was always trying to help people and he didn't have a malicious bone in his body, even when others had wronged him. I'll miss working with him and talking to him on the daily.
