Obituary

EVANSVILLE - Kim Mathew Gruebling, age 74, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Sept. 22, 1949, in Madison, the son of Jerome and Constance (Dettlaff) Gruebling. He was united in marriage to Gloria Ziegler in Madison.


Kim graduated from Madison West High School and then went on to the police academy. He served with the Madison Police Department for 33 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the adventures of 16 Alaskan fishing trips. He also loved traveling to Europe and other destinations with friends where he was always the planner. Kim enjoyed ATV riding, boating and pistol shooting tournaments. He was a member of the Town of Union Board for many years.


Kim is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, Robert Will and Timothy (Uri) Will; grandson, Jonathan Ring; granddaughters, Hannah Webb and Breann Webb and their dad, Timothy Webb; and sister, Holly (John) Pitas. He will be greatly missed by his Labradors, Murphy and Sammy. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Karen Jean Gruebling and Jenifer Anne Will; parents, Jerome and Constance; and brother, Jeffrey Gruebling.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. @ Jackson St., Stoughton, at 12 noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023. A private family burial will follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

I worked for years beside Kim. We had many adventures together both at work and play. My wife Pat and I even took a fishing trip to Canada with Kim and Gloria. Many, many fond memories of both Kim and Gloria! He will be remembered and missed!

My parents were blessed with wonderful neighbors, and Kim and Gloria were no exception. We are forever grateful for their kindness when my folks went Home. My deepest sympathies go out to all of you. Kim was a treasure.

We began our careers together at MPD. Even as a very young man, Kim was really and old soul with a long view of life. He was always keen on details and very skilled at technical work. Kim and Gloria were a great team that supported each other as well as their many friendships. RIP.
