Obituary

NEWSPAPER-WSJ SUN 6/10/18 PhotoEide, Erica C. VERONA/MADISON-Erica C. Eide, age 53, of Verona, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018.  She was born on Nov. 14, 1964, in Owosso, Mich., the daughter of Everett and Eunice (Achenbach) Eide.  Erica graduated from LaFollette H.S. in 1983, and the UW-Madison in 1987.  She taught elementary school in the Madison Metropolitan School District (Mendota, Hawthorn and Shorewood Hills), for the past 28 years.  Outside of school she was a drummer with The Handphibians, a Brazillian community percussion ensemble, an amazing artist, and volunteered at the Circle Sanctuary Nature Preserve in Barneveld, WI.  Erica had a creative flair that extended to all aspects of her life, including her teaching profession, the way she dressed and her artwork.  She enjoyed the study of geology, nature, camping, and bonfires.  She was fun, spontaneous, adventurous, loved traveling the world, and wasn't afraid to try new things. Erica was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend.  She was thoughtful and giving with an extremely big heart, always placing others' needs in front of her own.  She was a beautiful light, with a huge loving aura and a mega-watt, contagious smile.  Her generosity, kindness, acceptance, talent and gifts in teaching, as well as her genuine concern for issues in the world will be missed by anyone fortunate enough to have known her. Erica is survived by her parents, Everett and Eunice; siblings, Linda Kay (Richard) Searle, Peter (Sandy) Eide, and Kristin (Todd) Eckelberg; nieces and nephews, Erin, Everett, and Bryan Eide and Erica and Ella Eckelberg; and feline companion, Sabina. A Celebration of Erica’s Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding.  A memorial gathering will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the Celebration on Friday. Erica was an all time GREAT educator! She had the intuition and dare to teach by the best standards. I loved her happy spirit, quiet manner that endeared students to her. I remember the creative way she encouraged kids to use their imagination, dressing up and doing plays. She truly lived her life providing a service that endured.

I am so sad to read this! I've danced and walked many fires with this beautiful spirit. Many long talks, laughs, hugs and such a great person! Was so looking forward to seeing her later this month at an event. That smile, those eyes, that spirit and that friend will be missed.

I am so shocked and sorry to hear of this. Although I only taught with Erica for a few years, she was a wonderful spirit and joyful person to be around. Condolences to her family, friends and her precious students.

As a very young teacher I had the pleasure of having Erica in one of my first classes at Franklin Elementary School. She was a very caring and loving young person who brought the joy of learning with her every day. Although we lost contact over the years I knew of her becoming a teacher and saw her frequently from time to time over the past thirty years. Always insightful and full of energy, you will be missed by all those whose lives you have touched over the years. May you rest in peace Erica.
