John William Neher

COTTAGE GROVE/ELYRIA, OH/LAKE VILLIAGE, IN/LOMBARD, IL/BELLWOOD, IL/ ELMHURST, IL- John William Neher, age 84, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Aster Retirement Community. He was born on Feb. 17, 1932, in Elmhurst, Ill., the son of John Henry Neher and Mary Magdalene Eisenbeiser. He married Joanna May Kohoutek on Jan. 10, 1953, in Cook County, Ill. He was a member of Local No. 150 Operating Engineers for 45 years. John is survived by his sons, John Steven (Amy) Neher, Raymond James (Darlene) Neher, and Wesley Scott (Sandy) Neher; daughter, Kathy Jo (Jeff) Manthei; grandchildren, Cody Nicholas Neher, Zach Tanner Neher, Abagael Aurelia Neher, Cooper Rex Manthei, and Ella Quinn Manthei; great-grandson, Logan James Neher; and sisters, Gloria (Michael) Britten, Nancy Holmes, and Mary Lou Neher. John was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna M. Neher; son, Larry R. Neher; half-brother, Red Neher; half-sister, Betty Kucera; and brother-in-law, Ralph Holmes. Private services will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Garden in Niles, Michigan. God blessed John with 30 additional years of life through the excellent care of doctors, nurses, and attendants from Mayo Clinic (Rochester/Jacksonville), Cleveland Clinic, UW Hospital, Willows Nursing Facility, Aster Retirement Community, and Agrace HospiceCare. We lost a great man today. A man of integrity, who was honest, hardworking, loving and caring. He was a genuine person who was unique and full of good stories. He selflessly served his country. He worked hard throughout his life for his families future and for others. Truly he was the last of a dying breed. His values are apparent in his sons and daughter as well as his grandkids. May God welcome you into His kingdom. Say hello to Grandma & Larry and all the others we've lost. Rest easy. You will be dearly missed, Grandpa John. We all love you very much!
