Robert Clemens Hinz

Hinz, Robert C. “Bob” MADISON-Robert C. “Bob” Hinz, age 86, joined his wife of 57 years, Shirley, in heaven on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015. He passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side. Bob was born in Milwaukee, on Jan. 29, 1929, the son of Bernard and Genevieve (Grabowski) Hinz. He attended St. Barbara grade school and Pulaski High School in Milwaukee. As a young adult, he was a member of the prestigious Polish Mazur Dancers. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952 achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Bob and Shirley were married on April 28, 1956, in Milwaukee. After the service, Bob worked as a diesel mechanic before joining American Family Insurance, where he was an agent, underwriter and manager. In 1973, Bob moved to Madison to start the Media Center at American Family headquarters. He retired after 30 years. Bob was a 40-year member of Toastmasters. He served as a member of the Mayor’s Senior Citizen Advisory committee. Bob was a volunteer business counselor for SCORE and a long-time VFW member. He enjoyed learning new things and became a certified Hypnotherapist who helped many quit smoking. Bob was a supporter of United Way as a speaker and volunteer and was proud to regularly give blood to the Red Cross, reaching the 10-gallon level. He supported his wife through lung and kidney transplants and was a wonderful father and grandfather to his family. Bob enjoyed travel, cruises and camping. His love for photography created many wonderful photo memories of him. Bob is survived by his eight children, Roy (Pam), Donald (Desiree), Connie (Brett) Warden, Judy (Dwayne) Cooke, Sharon Hinz, Brenda (Roger Weideman) Daly, Steven (Amy) Hinz, and Pamela (Leon) Holpin; 13 grandchildren, Adam (Erin) Hinz, Jason (Hannah) Hinz, Joshua (Alyssa) Hinz, Jeremy (Jocelyn) Hinz, Ariel (James) Himes, Alexis and Kurt Warden, Cole and Nicole Cooke, Collin Daly, William Hinz, and Skyler and Tyler Beyer; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley George and Betty Elliott; and a brother, Leonard Hinz. He is preceded in death by; brothers, Bernard and Daniel Hinz; and sister, Loretta McCrory. Funeral services will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. The family wishes to thank the many people who helped Bob over the past few years and is forever grateful to his daughter, Brenda, who along with Roger, provided loving care as no one else could.
