DANE – Randal Mack, age 45, entered into eternal peace on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014. He was born on Feb. 4, 1969, in Madison, the son of Roland and Joan (Meinholz) Mack. Randal graduated from UW Platteville in 1993, with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was married to Karen Swanson on March 12, 1994. Randal worked for Edward Kraemer & Sons as a project manager from 1992-1999, and at Mead & Hunt as a corporate pilot/engineer from 1999 to present. He had a passion for flying and started flying with his dad at a young age, taking lessons at 14. Randal’s first solo flight was at age 16. He also enjoyed working on the farm and was an avid outdoorsman. Randal is survived by his wife; children, Hannah and Andrew; siblings, Juanita (Bill Wagner) Mack, Ross (Angela) Mack and Julianne (Chad) Brickl; in-laws, H. Lee and Jacqui Swanson; sister-in-law, Karen Swanson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014. Burial will follow at St. Norbert’s Cemetery, Roxbury, with a late lunch at the Dorf Haus. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations for the education of Randal’s two children would be appreciated. Dear Mack Family-
I am sending my deepest sympathy to you at this difficult time. I remember fondly times spent flying with Randal when he was just a young boy tagging along with his Dad. Our mission entailed flights to various locations throughout Wisconsin and beyond to bring back "gifts of life" to those in need. I will forever be impressed by his love for aviation; he made his Dad so proud and filled his shoes so well!
May he rest in peace now that he has touched down in the heavens.

What a gentle soul and wonderful person. I haven't seen Randal much since high school, but will always remember him with a great smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I remember many a dark early morning flying in the "old" Cessna across the lake, cold, wrapped in blankets to keep warm, Randal steady at the controls, professional and solid as ever, telling stories about his kids and sharing how to improve our business. I crossed paths with Randal occasionally at various airports in Michigan. Whenever I saw the Cessna 340 on the ramp, or heard his voice on air traffic control, I would look forward to pleasant conversation or perhaps lunch. Waiting around airports was always more enjoyable with Randal for company. He was a kind and good person who was easy to know and impossible not to like.
