David W. Reed

REED, DAVID W. Cottage Grove-David W. Reed, age 77, passed away on Saturday Sept. 13, 2014. He was born on Sept. 18, 1936, in Mineral Point, the son of Jasper and Marion (Batchelor) Reed. He graduated from Ridgeway High School where he was captain of his basketball team and was an avid pitcher on the baseball team. David married Patricia Bettinger on Sept 1, 1958, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Plain, Wis. He started working for Oscar Mayer Foods in 1955 where he worked for more than 42 years. David coached Little League baseball in Monona. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and downhill skiing and also took an interest in real estate and the stock market. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Craig (Amy) Reed, Kim (Kevin) Jackson and David J. Reed; his grandchildren, Grant (April) Reed, Lucas Reed (fiancé Amber Stoneking), Paige (Sean) Knipfer and Karly Jackson; one great-grandchild, Griffin Michael Reed; sisters, Anna Marie Hallada (Roger Mueller) and Marilyn (Linus) Gilding; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Michael Joseph Reed. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, 434 N. Main Street, Cottage Grove, at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, with Father Michael Tarigopula officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. A luncheon will follow the service at 1855 Saloon, 218 S. Main St., #100, Cottage Grove. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a scholarship to be set up at Monona Grove High School in David's name.
