Obituary

SUN PRAIRIE -Patricia Lynn (Schenker) Klecker, age 29, passed in her sleep on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg, after 46 well fought months with cancer. Patty was born on Nov. 7, 1984, in New Berlin, Wis. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Charles and Geraldine Schenker and Robert and Pearl Luedtke. She is survived by her parents Gerald and Barbara Schenker; brothers Bryan and Jayson (Lisa) Schenker; loving husband Conor Klecker; and numerous other family and friends she held dear in her heart. Patty attended New Berlin West High School and excelled scholastically and on many volleyball teams. She attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where she met her future husband Conor Klecker. Patty graduated from UW-Whitewater in 2007 with two degrees; a B.B.A. in Management with Marketing Emphasis and a B.A. in Public Relations. She was promptly hired by WPPI as the Corporate Communications Coordinator. Conor proposed to Patty as they walked for the first time into the house they built in Sun Prairie. She was diagnosed with cancer just three months later. Patty didn’t let this change the way she lived her life, and was reserved about her health. Conor and Patty married on May 21, 2011, in Madison at the Grace Episcopal Church on the Capitol Square. She continued to work full time and continued to improve her skills and seek professional development opportunities while doing treatment. Patty worked at Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation before obtaining her dream job working for the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy as a Marketing Specialist. She was a fun-loving wife who bonded with her family, a successful professional, a candy collector, a couponing crackerjack, a personification of strength and modesty, and lived a full, but far too brief of a life. Patty was devoted to all her family, friends and most of all her dog Lucy. A Celebration of Patty’s life will be held at the OVERTURE CENTER, UPPER LOBBY, 201 State St, Madison, on Saturday, June, 28, 2014, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. A service to honor Patty’s spirit will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 116 W. Washington Ave., Madison. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the UW Carbone Cancer Center. Online condolences can be posted at gundersonfh.com. Patty is one of the few extraordinary individuals I had the blessing to call my best-friend and my sister. Her life was full of joy - please remember that 10% of Patty's life was lived enduring what cancer threw her way; which she managed with grace and dignity. She chose to live the last few years of her life, just like her younger years. She always put others first and never lived life too seriously; this is what I will choose to remember about her. Not sure if she had a bucket-list, but if she did, she achieved so much in a very short time! As hard as it was to let her physically go, it will be harder to live with her not being a part of my future memories; she was cheated and we were also! With Love, Lisa Schenker

For many years, Patty's mother, Barb, has had a special name for her, Sweet Pea. I picture the delicate, flowing, supple, flower that is sometimes pink, lavender, white or even a deep magenta. It sometimes grows as a single bloom or as a part of a large cluster and it describes her well. It is a flower that is supported by a strong stem, which is like her parents, Barbara and Gerry. Nurturing and encouraging giving strength to grow towards the light. The leaves on the stem are much like her brothers, Bryan and Jayson and later Lisa her "sister", as they served to guide her as she learned about being loved and protected through the support of family. As Patty experienced the love for her husband, Conor, she continued to support him as well as supported by him; very much like the cluster of Sweet Peas that develop as they grow. Sweet Pea in her desire to be part of the cluster, without seeking to be a single stand alone flower (which she could have been), demonstrates the generousness of her spirit, her commitment to family and the desire to please others while remaining true to herself. Truly unique qualities as is true in the bouquet that we describe has life. A wonderful example for us all.
