Uncle Walt never failed to take the time to talk with children/young adults about things which they considered to be important. I spent many, many hours of my life, talking with him about paleontology, anthropology, endangered species, humane animal farming, and our connection to God and Mother Earth. Walt would look with interest at my fossil collection and my pictures of my travels through Nepal and India, watch films with me about Panda bears, ask me about my vegetarian curry recipes...and for each and every moment we were together, he made me feel heard, loved, and significant...Few people in my life have consistently made me feel that exchanging ideas with them (even when we disagreed) would inevitably produce contentment and greater wisdom for us both. I will is him.

Uncle Walt was such a blessing to so many. I will always remember his deep spirituality and love for his family. He had a wonderful gift of being able to be in the moment; pray, laugh, and listen. We were blessed. I am happy to know that he and Aunt Peg are back together. So many things come to mind...He was absolutely the best corn hole player I have ever seen (never mind the fact he was 89) those years in the south taught that Chicago kid how to throw horseshoes. I will never forget Thanksgiving 2001 and the private moments we shared reflecting, after talking with Roy at ground zero, our laughter and tears. That is a treasure in my life that I will always be grateful for. I hope that one day I can reflect to those in my life the type of faith, listening, quiet spirit and love that he shared with us. Know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you come to terms with your loss.

Uncle Walt and Aunt Peggie were two of the most affectionate and kind people in my life. Growing up, I saw their relationship, like that of my own Mom and Dad, as defining the kind of marriage that I continue to think of as "ideal." They will continue to hold important places in my memories.

My husband always wonders why when I first met him I told him I was never getting married. I felt that way because I thought that men like my uncle Walt and the way he cherished his wife and his marriage did not exist anymore. I was holding out for that kind of relationship and now I am married to a man that believes all men should take a page out of Walt’s book for how he loved his wife and family. My husband believes that through the Lord relationships like that are possible which is why Walt will be dearly missed by our family and the example he set through his life. Walt also helped me understand God’s plan at a very young age, through his guidance and support during my grandfather’s passing. I was so angry that such an amazing person was taken away from us and Walt helped me to see that it was all part of God’s plan to take him to a better place. I was just a very young girl at the time but the lesson he taught me on forgiveness and following God’s will has helped me stay positive in his own passing as I know that he is with the Lord and his beloved wife. Without Walt I would be a very a different and angry person right now, however I know how blessed I am to not only to have Walt as an uncle but as a friend and an instrument of the Lord that helped me through difficult times. Walt would not want us to be sad but grateful that the Lord blessed him with a wonderful family and a beautiful life.
