Obituary
MIDDLETON-Margaret Lehmann died Oct. 18, 2012, at Walnut Grove in Middleton. She was born Margaret Hetrick in Pennsylvania in 1923, attended Anderson College in Anderson, Ind., and married Walter Lehmann in 1948. Margaret assisted Walter in his ministry in the Church of God in Kentucky, Georgia and Michigan, and served three years as a missionary in Trinidad, West Indies. She also worked as an administrative assistant in Grand Haven, Michigan. She moved to Madison in 2000 and is a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Margaret is survived by her husband, Walter; children, Beth Schmaltz and Tim Lehmann; and grandchildren, Niabi and Wolfgang Schmaltz and Keith Lehmann. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON MIDDLETON FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Peggy had grace of spirit-kind, full of hope and good will. She was a small town girl from rural PA who took her courage in her hand and followed her husband to Trinidad as a missionary and always served her Lord and her husband with a willing and loving heart. If you were part of her family, you were treasured and best of all you knew it. She will be well remembered by the children in the family for her 'little Debbie" snack cakes she brought to family gatherings. She loved her Walt, her husband and partner. Even as her memory faded, she still knew how to care for him-she loved him well all her days. In this day and age of such brokeness in marriage, Peg and Walt were true to one another. Grace-amazing in all its aspects, that was Peg. How blessed we were to have known and loved her.

My earliest memories of Aunt Peggy are of her showing up to family gatherings with a purse full of Little Debbie snacks and a handfull of punch balloons or sparklers--she was ALWAYS thinking of the children, and of how to make things fun for them. My later memories include her kissing and holding hands with the love of her life, my Uncle Walt, her delighting in cuddling Wolfgang and Niabi when they were little babies, her squeezing Keith and laughing at how his height fast outstripped her tiny frame, and her complimenting all of us kids on how smart we were. She made me feel special. She made everyone feel special. That is because she took the time to truly care about us. She will be missed--always.

Luella and I were fortunate to have had Rev. Walter and "Peg" serve the church we attended in the early years of our marriage. Rev. Lehman officiated at our wedding ceremony and provided wise counsel by advising us to always be ready to say "I am sorry, I was wrong." Peg was always a source of joy and inspiration to us as well. With our own entrance into pastoral ministry we came to better understand the challenges she faced in raising wonderful children, in supporting a hard-working minister-husband and caring for a growing congregation.
