Dorothy Minnie (Johnston) Bjornstad

Bjornstad, Dorothy Minnie (Johnston) STOUGHTON - Dorothy Minnie (Johnston) Bjornstad, age 84, of Stoughton, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 1, 1922, in Iowa County, Wis., to John Arthur and Minnie (Jenkins) Johnston. Dorothy attended the local grade school, and the high school in Rewey, where she decided early, she would be a teacher. She then attended Platteville State Teachers College, and in later years, graduated from Edgewood College. On Aug. 23, 1945, Dorothy married George Arthur Bjornstad, her lifes partner. They started a family and a few years later, she returned to teaching. Dorothy was an elementary and middle school teacher for more than 30 years, retiring from the Belleville schools in 1987. She was a dedicated mother and a devoted grandmother, happily basking in the presence of her grandchildren. Dorothys interests were many and varied. She was a voracious reader, curious and interested in almost everything, but her favorite pastimes were cooking and traveling with her husband, George. Dorothy loved to cook for her children and found unending delight in seeing new places. She is survived by three sons, Linn Bjornstad of Middleton, Lee (Mary Lou) Bjornstad of Madison and step-son, Jason Bach of Eagle River, and Lon (Libby) Bjornstad and their child, Lonie of Madison; a daughter, Gail (Rick) Hopke and their children, Michael and Ann Hopke of Stoughton; and a sister, Juanita Johnston of Cobb. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1995; her parents; a sister, Ruth Guinevere; and brothers, Ruford and Quinton Johnston. Dorothy requested there be no visitation and a private service for immediate family only. We will honor that request.
