Gladys H. Ballard Barrett

Ballard Barrett, Gladys H. MADISON - Gladys H. Ballard Barrett, age 89, died on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital. She was born on May 13, 1917, in Madison, to Gust and Ruth (Mathison) Herbeck. Gladys graduated from Madison East High School. She retired from Omeda Medical after 35 years. Gladys was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She loved to play bingo, crochet and travel. Gladys is survived by her children, Frederick "Rick" Ballard and Judy (Harold) Bergeman; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Howard Herbeck of Florida, Irene Carlin of Madison, and Leroy "Stub" Herbeck of Arizona; sister-in-law, Joan Herbeck; and special friends, "Judd St. Gang", Betty Ihlenfeldt, Jeni Winburn and Sandra Hughs. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Ballard and George Barrett; her parents; a daughter, Clareen Riggins; son-in-law, Joe Riggins; a brother, Richard Herbeck; two grandchildren, Brenda Olson and Ricky Ballard; a great-granddaughter, Jeanette Brenyas; and sister-in-law, Florence Herbeck. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, with the Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
