Liebig, James Thomas "Jim" > MADISON/ TUCSON, ARIZ. - James Thomas "Jim" Liebig, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in Tucson, Ariz., at his winter home. He was born on July 16, 1929, in Beaver Dam, the son of Lawrence and Genevieve (Ferris) Liebig. Jim graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1947 and from UW-LaCrosse with a bachelors degree in history. He served the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1952 in the Signal Corps. Jim met his future wife, Margaret Hady, while both were pursing graduate studies at UW-Madison and were united in marriage on June 13, 1959, in Watertown. He was an archivist for the University from 1969 until 1989. Jim was a devoted father. He loved aviation, photography, politics and nature, especially the desert in spring. Jim is survived by his children, Mary (Kevin Cronk) Liebig of Stoughton, Ann (Michael) Zielinski of Titusville, Fla., Anthony "Tony" (Mary) Liebig of Windsor, Barbara (Jezz) Leckenby of Saffron Walden, Essex, U.K. and Catherine (John) Crimins of Eagle Rock, Calif.; a granddaughter, Genevieve Crimins; a nephew, Joe (Gail) Liebig of Beaver Dam; and two nieces, Patricia (Herman) Herkert of Madison and Carol Henning of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; and two brothers, Robert and John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Burial will be at St. Patricks Cemetery, Beaver Dam. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, and at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
