Margaret Monika (Schiefert) Russell

Russell, Margaret Monika (Schiefert) MADISON - Margaret Monika (Schiefert) Russell, who resided in Madison from 1927 to 1997, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, in Inverness, Ill., at age 100 years, nine months and four days. She was born on May 4, 1906, in Gibbon, Minn., the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Gitter) Schiefert. Margaret was married to Floyd "Geo" Kemper Russell for 31 years, 7 months, and 30 days. Mr. Russell retired from the Madison Police Department on Oct. 31, 1957 and was the last policeman to wear badge No. 1, which he held since April 1955. He was also known as the old time beat walking patrolman. Margaret was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church for more than 70 years. Mrs. Margaret Russell leaves behind a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann (Ronald) Galuski; three grandchildren, Russell L. Galuski, Robin Ann (Andy) Pelsis and Mark (Lorie) Galuski; and six great-grandsons, Brian, Jason, Kenneth, Randall, Robert and Zachery. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Angela and Anna; and six brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Anton, Leo, Benedict and George. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
