Obituary

Hilgers, Jerome J. "Jerry" OREGON - Jerome J. "Jerry" Hilgers, age 77, of Oregon, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, under the kindness and compassion of the HospiceCare facility and surrounded by his children. He was born on Sept. 17, 1929, in Madison, the son of Theodore and Thelma Hilgers. Jerry graduated from Edgewood High School in 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean war. Jerry was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Engroff on March 1, 1952, in Madison. He was a life time member of V.F.W. Post No. 1318 and a member of Steamfitter Local Union No. 394 (601). Jerry loved nature and was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. He was a skilled woodcarver. Jerry is survived by his children, Linda (Art) Grames of Godfrey, Ill., Butch Hilgers of Stoughton, Teri (Steve) Elliott of Sun Prairie and Charles (Tammy) Hilgers of Cottage Grove; four grandchildren, Ryan (Leslie) Olson, Missy (Paul) Wood, Elizabeth Hilgers and Jenna Hilgers, all of Madison; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Megan and Hunter Olson; and four brothers, James (LaVonne) Hilgers of Stone Lake, Richard (Sue) Hilgers of Ft. Pierce, Fla., William Hilgers of Madison and Dave (Shirley) Hilgers of Star Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and his parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, with Father Bill Connell presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
