Obituary

Riley, Edward J. Jr. MADISON - Edward J. Riley Jr., age 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at home following a courageous battle with emphysema and congestive heart failure. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 21, 1930, to Edward and Laura (Johnson) Riley. Edward attended Madison West High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He began his career with Alliant Energy (WPL) in 1955 retiring in 1992, after 37 years of service. Edward was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed spending time repairing and restoring old vehicles. Ed was also a motorcycle enthusiast, a pilot and very much enjoyed discussing his flying adventures. Edward is survived by his wife, Carlene (Thornton); his brother, Robert (Vera) Riley; brothers and sisters-in-law; a special aunt and uncle; and several nieces and nephews. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, a step-sister and brother-in-law. Funeral services will be held at PEOPLES UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 103 N. Alpine Parkway, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2007, with the Rev. Howard Hintzman presiding. Burial will be in Lutheran South Cemetery, Stoughton. Family and friends may call on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc. or to the Peoples United Methodist Church.
