Elaine Marie Gest

Gest, Marie Elaine MADISON/ MINOCQUA - Marie Elaine Gest, age 75, of Minocqua (formerly of Madison), passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. She was born on May 31, 1931, in Lodi, the daughter of Peter and Edith (Oleson) Mayhew. Marie attended St. Bernards Catholic Grade School in Madison, and was a 1949 graduate of Edgewood High School. She married Vernon Marshall Gest on Aug. 16, 1952, in Madison. Marie was an employment specialist for the state of Wisconsin for 25 years. She taught piano and organ lessons in Madison for 10 years. Marie enthusiastically embraced life, making friends wherever she went. Among her favorite hobbies were music, woodcarving, painting, and a special passion for dancing. Marie is survived by three daughters, Lynn (Ross) West, Deborah (Dennis) Zeier and Bonnie (Scott) Halker; a son, Terry Gest; three grandsons, Jonathan Zeier, Ian Halker and Shay Halker; two step-granddaughters, Elizabeth Fugate and Catherine Dal Cerro; two step-great-grandsons, Andrew Fugate and Joseph Fugate; and two step-great-granddaughters, Zoe Dal Cerro and Theta Dal Cerro. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Travis Zeier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2007, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
