Obituary

Haessig-Matz, Etola "Toni" MADISON - Etola "Toni" Haessig-Matz, age 92, died on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at HospiceCare Center. She was born on Jan. 21, 1915, in Madison, the daughter of Carl and Mary Edmunds. Toni was a life long resident of Madison. In 1933, she married Wilfred Haessig, who preceded her in death in February 1970. In October 1981, she married Harvey W. Matz. He preceded her in death in October 2004. Toni worked for many years in restaurant management in Madison, including The Dutch Maid, Madison Milk Producers Dairy Bar and Rennebohms. She and her husband, Bill, owned and managed Snow White Custard shop on University Avenue in the early 1950s. Her love for cooking and serving the public continued as her career for various Madison restaurants until age 72. She then worked at various local grocery stores as a "food demonstrator," until her health started failing. Toni was surrounded throughout her life by family, which she said was most important to her. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, pets, flower gardening, playing cards and crocheting. Toni had tremendous determination and a strong will to live in spite of her years of poor health. She is survived by her two children, Ronald (Audrey) Haessig of Oregon and Karen (Jerry) Ulrich of Poynette; five grandchildren, Mya Haessig, Ronda Kelly, Bill Haessig and Scot and Krista Ulrich; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lenore Levake. Toni was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert C. Haessig; a brother, Carlyle Edmunds; and a sister, Eloise Marsh. Funeral services will be held at OUR SAVIOURS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1201 Droster Road, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 26, 2007, with the Rev. Brad Homan presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Our Saviours Lutheran Church or to HospiceCare Inc. A special thanks to Dr. Kostelyna.
