Ziegler, Elaine Agnes (Manthe) DEFOREST - Elaine Agnes (Manthe) Ziegler, age 83, of DeForest, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital. She was born on May 15, 1924, at home at the Goose Pond farm outside of Arlington, the daughter of Martin and Edna (Wernick) Manthe. Elaine graduated from DeForest High School and was salutatorian of her senior class. She was united in marriage to Louis "Merlin" Ziegler on Nov. 20, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in the Town of Leeds. Elaine worked for Madison Kipp, state of Wisconsin and retired from General Casualty Insurance, as a supervisor in 1986. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was active in choir and different Womens church groups. Elaine is survived by her two sons, Merle Ziegler of Stoughton and Tom (Margriet) Ziegler of Lafayette, Ind.; five grandchildren, Chad, Lori, Jeff, Todd and Lea; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Isabel Arneson of DeForest, Doris Welch of Wichita Falls, Texas and Karen Kilen of Arlington; and five brothers, Norbert Manthe of DeForest, James (Marie) Manthe of Perham, Minn., William Manthe of Neshkoro, Raymond (Suzanne) Manthe of Oak Creek and Donald (Shirley) Manthe of Mauston; and sister-in-law, Donna Manthe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis "Merlin," in 1997; two brothers, Eugene and Gerald; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Ziegler. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, with the Rev. Mark Bartels presiding. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Leeds Township, at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 19, 2007. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, June 18, 2007 and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
