Ernest S. Gudgel Jr.

Gudgel, Ernest S. Jr. MADISON - Ernest S. Gudgel Jr., age 81, of Madison, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007, at Four Winds Manor, Verona. He was born on March 8, 1926, in Milford, Ill., the son of Ernest and Faye (Casner) Gudgel. Ernest served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Helen Miller on June 20, 1945, in Kentland, Ind. Ernest was a truck driver for C. U. Transit in Cottage Grove for more than 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid Cubs fan. Ernest is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen; five children, Brenda Fowell of Platteville, Stan (Jane) Gudgel of Madison, Sueanna Gudgel of Luana, Iowa, Calvin Gudgel of Madison, and Ernest Allen (Susie) Gudgel of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren, Donald (Shelli) Fowell of Hudson, Darin Fowell of Lancaster, Jason (Cari) Fowell of Livingston, Scott (Marcy) Gudgel of Cottage Grove, Eric Gudgel of Austin, Minn., Krystal (Jason) Dingbaum of Iowa City, Iowa, Lane Johnson of Luana, Iowa, Lauren Gudgel and Jake Gudgel, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; and five great-grandchildren. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Paul and Ron. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2007. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of the services. Private family burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
