Obituary
Stabenow, William F. ALBANY - William F. Stabenow, age 58, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2007, at Meriter Hospital, Madison, following a cardiac arrest on July 13, 2007. He was born on Nov. 30, 1948, in Freeport, Ill., to Ernest H. and Doris E. (Lyon) Stabenow. Bill graduated from Lena-Winslow High School, Lena, Ill., in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 14, 1968. After basic training and 44 weeks of schooling, Bill served as a Nike Radar Computer Technician in Karlsrue, Germany, for two years. After an honorable discharge on Sept. 8, 1971, he returned to northern Illinois, where he farmed for several years. Bill then worked as a truck driver and part-time carpenter. For the past 20 years, he was employed at Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. (now Titan Tire Co.), Freeport, Ill. Bill was united in marriage with Doris (Wolkenhauer) Anderson on July 4, 1992, at Monona Lutheran Church, Monona. They lived in Brooklyn, for five years and then with Bills knowledge and carpentry skills, together they built their home in rural Albany, in 1997. Their favorite pastime was sitting on their deck, watching the birds. His love of carpentry kept him busy in his spare time, helping family and friends with their construction projects. Bill was a member of Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church, Stoughton and American Legion Post No. 1225, McConnell, Ill. He is survived by his wife, Doris of Albany; son, Blake (Lacy Johnston) of New Orleans, La.; daughter, Brittany (Christopher) Neptun of Lake Villa, Ill.; stepsons, David (Meg) Anderson of Combined Locks and Derek Anderson of Oregon; six grandchildren, Dreyson, Dylan, Maxwell and Grant Anderson and Abigail and Anika Neptun; two sisters, Jeanne (David) Dampman of Monroe and Mary Anne Stabenow of McConnell, Ill.; a brother, Ernest H. (Cathy) Stabenow Jr. of Lena, Ill; and many special relatives and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD BY THE LAKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1860 U.S. Highway 51, Stoughton, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, with the Rev. Todd McVey officiating. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL HOME, Highway 51 North at Jackson St., Stoughton from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, and at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd by the Lake Lutheran Church or to the family. Just as Bill helped and gave to others during his life, he is helping and giving to others by his death as an organ donor. Very special thanks to the doctors and staff at Monroe Hospital ER, Med Fligth and Meriter Hospital ICU, for their excellent care for Bill and loving support for the family.
