Obituary
Rortvedt, Dorothy Louise Moore MADISON - Dorothy Louise Moore Rortvedt, age 84, longtime Madison resident, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, in Minocqua, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 22, 1923, in Lone Rock, to Dr. Dwight and Elizabeth Moore. On Jan. 17, 1946, in Lake Geneva, she married Arthur G. "Art" Rortvedt. He preceded her in death, after 58 years of marriage. Dorothy was a 1944 UW-Platteville graduate and taught science and math in Augusta, starting in the 1943-1944 school year. After working as an engineering aid at Truax Field during World War II, she continued her teaching career that included both middle and high school in Edgerton, McFarland and Madison public schools, retiring in 1982 from Sennett Middle School, due to poor health. Although unable to teach, she continued to stay active, working at H and R Block and volunteering with her husband Art, at Oakwood East, where they resided for four years before his death. Due to declining health, she relocated to Harmony of McFarland, and recently moved to Minocqua to be closer to her family. Dorothy was an active woman who was a lifetime member of the WREA and the Starlite Chapter No. 283 of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling and especially time spent with family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Judith (Rolf) Running of Edina, Minn. and Margaret (Jim) Boerke of Hamilton, Ohio; son, Peter (Teresa) Rortvedt Sr. of Hazelhurst; seven grandchildren, Nathan Running, Rebecca (Mike) Nicklay, Sean (Elly) Boerke, Jodie (Chay) Lawrence, Peter Jr., Ross and Sarah Rortvedt; six great-grandchildren, Alexander Running, Hannah and Samuel Nicklay, Roxanne Lawrence, Cooper and Owen Pinaud; sister, Marian Halpin of McFarland; and her cat, Rachel. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Norman, Beth, Clara, Harold and Myron. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
