Obituary

Riphon, Violet B. (Tjugum) MADISON - Violet (Tjugum) Riphon, age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at University Hospital, Madison. She was born on Feb. 20, 1924, in the town of Burke, the daughter of Oscar and Emma (Weigen) Tjugum. Violet graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 1942. Violet met Raymond J. Riphon, the love of her life, in 1947. They were united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1949. Violet and Ray had three children and Violet chose to stay home with her children after working 15 years for Oscar Mayer Foods. Years later, Violet worked the holiday season for Wisconsin Cheeseman and was also active during the elections at the voting polls. Violet was a devoted wife and cherished the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards, bowling, shopping, dancing, going to movies and attending her grandchildrens activities. Violet is survived by her husband, Ray of Madison; sons, Jim (Shari) Riphon of Lodi, and Richard (Kathy) Riphon of Madison; a daughter, Linda (Tim) Stanley of Monona; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Kristi, Ryan, Alyssa, Adam, Aaron, Alex and Austin; a great-granddaughter, Karly; two brothers, LaVerne (Beverly) Tjugum and Delano (Leona) Tjugum of Sun Prairie; two sisters, Irene (Ed) Henneman and Jean (Jerry) McGovern of Sun Prairie; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Tjugum of Columbus, and Marian Doherty of Madison; a brother-in-law, Duane "Bud" Dulek of Sun Prairie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Marman, Oscar Jr. "Bud", Curtis and Denver; and a sister, Fern Jensen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at 2 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Monona, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service on Friday. Violet was able to remain at home during her courageous battle with Parkinsons disease, due to the devotion of her loving husband. The family wishes to express gratitude to the nursing staff of the TLC North unit at University Hospital. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
