William J. O'Mara

OMara, William J. MADISON - William J. OMara, age 83, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, with his grandson, Garrett, at his side. He was born on Sept. 12, 1924, in Providence, R.I., the son of William J. and Catherine (McGuirl) OMara. William served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman during World War II from 1942 until 1945, and during the Vietnam War from 1969 until 1970. He worked for Marshall Erdman and Associates from 1949 until 1961, as a carpenter and foreman and at the University of Wisconsin, Physical Plant from 1961 until 1966. William enjoyed woodworking, building homes, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his son, William J. OMara of Madison; daughter, Maureen Armstrong of Madison; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert OMara. William was preceded in death by his parents. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, N2665 County Road QQ, King, WI 54946.
