Cook, Dr. Bruce Benson MADISON - Dr. Bruce Benson Cook, age 96, of Madison, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at his home. He was born in Michigan on March 9, 1911. Bruce graduated from dental school at the University of Michigan, where he met his future wife, who was a nurse. He was married to Marabel Driver Cook for 60 years; she preceded him in death. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in Hawaii. Bruce was one of the founding members, and acted as president, of the Great Lakes Oral Surgeons Society. He was an avid reader and music lover. Bruce volunteered at the public library, nursing homes and at a wheelchair recycling facility. He is survived by his three daughters, Jane (Joe) Ross of San Diego, Calif., Carolyn Anderson of Michigan, and Betsy (Roger) Marcus of Monona; seven grandchildren, David, Dan (Deb), Douglas, Kim, Amelia, Zephyr and Bruce (Treena); nine great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a brother, William Cook of Cape Cod, Mass.; and special friends, Jeanne Hills, Ann Pratt, Audrey, Betty, Vera, Amy and the Vaughn family. Bruce will be cremated and his ashes will be co-mingled with his wifes and taken near Lake Superior in Michigan. The family will hold a memorial for him in the Spring of 2008.
