Obituary
Voigt, Melvin Carl "Mel" Jr. MONONA/STOUGHTON Melvin Carl "Mel" Voigt Jr., age 82, of Stoughton, formerly of Monona, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. He was born on June 7, 1925, in Fort Atkinson, the son of Melvin and Nelia Voigt. Mel lived there until he was 17, at which time he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On June 1, 1957, he married Virginia DeLorenzo, his best friend and constant companion of 50 years. They settled in Monona, raising four children. Mel was employed at the Rayovac Corporation as a plant supervisor until his retirement in 1991. He was also the Grand Poo Ba of the Moose Lodge of Madison during the late 90s. Mel was a caring, loving man who was always there for you, going out of his way to help. Until recent failing health, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, going to the cabin, "up north," and always keeping busy with projects. He loved watching his beloved Packers and Badgers and spending time with his wife and family. Mel is survived by his loving wife, Virginia of Stoughton; five children, Mike (Bobbie) Voigt of Norcross, Ga., Keith (Rhonda) of Monona, Dean of Madison, Angela of New Glarus and Kristi (Scott) Grady of Stoughton; seven grandchildren, Shane Voigt, Evan Voigt, Genevieve Voigt, Alicia Voigt, Chelsey Voigt, Kayleigh Gundersen and Nelia Gundersen; two step-grandchildren, Bruce and Eric Grady; a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Voigt; brother, Jack Voigt of Mount Airy, N.C.; many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marylou Ebert; and a beloved granddaughter, Alicia. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. "Honey, dad and grandpa, we love you and will miss you dearly. We know you are with Alicia, walking in green meadows under skies of blue."
