Obituary

Echeverria, Carlos MADISON Former Connecticut resident, Carlos Raul Echeverria Coronado, age 52, passed away unexpectedly at his daughters home in Roscoe, Ill. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. His four grandchildren and dog "Boy" were with him at the time. He was born on June 1, 1955, in Guatemala City, Guatemala to the late Blanca Alicia and Carlos Roberto Echeverria. He graduated from Colegio de Infantes in Guatemala City. In August of 1973, he was accepted as a foreign exchange student and also graduated from Loyal High School, Loyal, Wis. in 1974. This is where he met his future wife. He returned to Guatemala and studied engineering at the University of San Carlos. Brenda Wolter married him in 1975, in Guatemala City, where they resided until 1978. They moved to Madison, where he received his B.S. in civil engineering at UW Madison in 1980. He and his family relocated to Weymouth, Mass. while working as an engineer for Summers Group. The company moved the family to Oakdale, Conn. which was closer to the nuclear power plant the company was building in Waterford, Conn. He then completed his masters degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut while working as an engineer for the U.S. government through the Naval Underwater Sound Lab in Groton, Conn. After becoming a member of MENSA, he was working on his Ph.D. when he suffered a brain aneurysm and could no longer achieve his designation and retired. Carlos has touched the lives of so many people during his short life. His friends in Guatemala used to call him "El Gato" because no matter what was going on, he always seemed to land on his feet. He walked his life to the beat of his own drum. He can take credit for the incredible five children hes left behind, Brenda Alis (Jon Quimby) Quimby-Echeverria of Roscoe, Ill. with their four children, Keira and Madison, Shamus, and Deklan; Victoria Marisol of Madison; Daniella Maria of Madison; Carlos Raul Jr. of Middleton; and Nina Lee of Middleton. Two sisters, Alicia and Olga; one brother, Carlos Roberto; along with a large extended family in Central America will also miss him. His former wife, Brenda Lee of Middleton, will miss his jokes, his music, his silliness, but mostly his passion for life and the love he gave his children. A Memorial Gathering will take place on Monday, April 21, 2008, at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Centers 5203 Monona Drive (608) 221-5420 www.gundersonfh.com
